Summer Fun, Future Plans

There is something special about summer; it has a funny way of stretching time. The routines that shape the rest of the year, like classes, assignments, exams, practices, and schedules, suddenly loosen their grip. Days become a little less structured. There is more room to travel, work, volunteer, spend time with friends, and simply enjoy life.
That freedom is part of what makes summer so exciting. It is a chance to try new things, meet new people, go new places, and imagine new possibilities.

Some of life's most important discoveries happen when there is finally enough space to ask bigger questions. What excites me? What am I good at? What kind of life do I want to build? What impact do I want to have on the world?
For students approaching the next stage of life, whether that means finishing high school, completing a gap year, or wrapping up Sherut Leumi or army service, those questions naturally lead to thinking about the future. That does not mean spending the entire summer worrying about college applications. Quite the opposite. The goal is not to rush decisions. Summer offers a chance to explore possibilities with curiosity and excitement.
If beginning college is on the horizon, summer can be an especially good time to explore the possibility of earning a degree in Israel. Unlike many North American institutions, Israeli universities remain active throughout much of the summer. For those who can visit in person, summer offers prospective students a great chance to visit campuses, meet admissions staff, and experience university life while it is actually taking place. Visiting campuses can be one of the most valuable parts of the exploration process. Walking around, observing student life, sitting in on classes, and experiencing the atmosphere firsthand often provides insights that no website or brochure can match. Because campuses remain active in June and July, prospective students have the opportunity to see university life in motion.
Not every student will be able to visit campuses in person this summer, but that does not mean the exploration has to wait. Most schools offer virtual tours, online information sessions, webinars, and opportunities to speak with admissions representatives, faculty members, and current students. Whether from a campus café in Israel or a laptop halfway around the world, meaningful exploration can begin anywhere.

Summer is also a great time to explore potential fields of study. In Israel, students generally apply directly to a department or degree program rather than applying to the university and choosing a major later. Understanding your interests, whether in engineering, business, psychology, health sciences, Jewish studies, or another field, can make future decisions much easier.
Perhaps most importantly, summer is a chance to connect with people who are already living the experience you are considering. Whether over coffee on campus, in a virtual information session, or through an online conversation, take the relaxed pace of summer to speak to current students and recent graduates who can offer first-hand perspectives.
Ask them what they love about their programs, what surprised them, and what advice they would give someone just getting started. Those conversations often spark ideas, answer questions, and open doors to possibilities that had never been considered before.
The future rarely arrives all at once. More often, it takes shape through small moments of exploration, reflection, and curiosity.
Summer should absolutely be a time to have fun. In fact, dreaming a little bigger can be part of the fun. Summer offers the freedom to explore new possibilities. Some of the best adventures begin by envisioning what comes next.
After all, the future is calling.
