Every fall, guidance counselors across North America sit down with students to discuss the future. Parents join the conversation around kitchen tables and at college fairs. Together they compare campuses, majors, acceptance rates, financial aid packages, and career outcomes.

Yet amid all the spreadsheets and checklists, one important question is often left unasked: What kind of life is this educational experience preparing a student to lead?

At The Future is Calling, we believe education is more than a pathway to employment. At its best, it expands a student's horizons, strengthens character, inspires curiosity, and provides the confidence to contribute meaningfully to the world. That conviction is the foundation of The Future Is Calling.

Originally created as a guide to higher education in Israel, the initiative has grown into something broader: helping young Jews envision their future in Israel. College is an important part of that journey, but it is only one chapter. Some students begin with a gap year or semester program. Others pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees, internships, research opportunities, or careers in Israel. Some eventually choose to build their lives there. There is no single roadmap. Our goal is to ensure that students know these opportunities exist and to help in accessing them.

For families exploring those possibilities, Israel offers a remarkable educational environment. Its universities are internationally respected for academic excellence and research. Its innovation economy gives students access to world-leading industries in medicine, technology, engineering, business, agriculture, and cybersecurity. Classrooms encourage intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, and lively discussion.

Those qualities are developed over time, which is why Tzemach David invests in students long before they begin applying to universities. We've found that helping students imagine this kind of future often begins well before the college search.

One example is Nelech, our partnership with Ohr Torah Stone. Through this semester-long program, North American tenth graders attend Israeli high schools while living with carefully selected host families. They improve their Hebrew, build meaningful friendships, and experience Israeli life from the inside. For many participants, Nelech opens a door they didn't know existed.

For students who come to Israel after high school, we're also working to strengthen the gap year experience through new ulpan initiatives that help participants build Hebrew fluency while connecting more deeply to Israeli life and culture. Language is more than a practical skill; it's a gateway to relationships, confidence, and a richer experience of living and learning in Israel.

As students begin thinking about college, The Future Is Calling is there to help families navigate the next step, discovering the many educational opportunities available in Israel. We provide practical, research-based guidance on universities, academic programs, admissions, finances, campus life, and career pathways so families can make informed decisions with confidence.

We also recognize the essential role guidance counselors play in shaping those decisions. Counselors are trusted advisors during one of the most important transitions in a young person's life. Through educational resources, ongoing relationships with Israeli institutions, and immersive counselor missions to Israel, we help guidance professionals experience the country's educational landscape firsthand. Visiting campuses, meeting faculty and students, and learning about academic programs enables counselors to offer informed advice and confidently include Israel among the options they discuss with students.

Our objective is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to consider Israel as a serious, accessible, and enriching option.
